UBD Receives Book Donation From Myanmar Embassy

The Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as part of its effort to create greater understanding and awareness on Myanmar as part of ASEAN, donated a collection of books to the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library.

The donated books cover diverse topics including Myanmar history, folktales, memoirs and biographies, arts and heritage, contemporary issues and economy. Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Brunei Darussalam His Excellency U Htin Lynn and spouse, Madam Daw Hnin Ko presented the books to UBD Vice-Chancellor Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz.

The book donation marks a friendly and cordial relationship in education, culture and arts between Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar. The Embassy's donation is hoped to enrich the reading resources on Myanmar at UBD Library and enable more Bruneian readers to understand and learn about Myanmar history as well as its contemporary economy. During the book donation ceremony, the Ambassador pointed out that promoting bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar must begin with building understanding and friendship not only between government officials but also with the people, and institutions, including academia.

In academic collaboration, UBD is partnered with the Yangon Institute of Economics, University of Yangon and University of Mandalay via the ASEAN University Network (AUN). UBD actively collaborates with AUN member universities in academics and research, as well as exchanges. Under the Brunei Darussalam Scholarship on Enhancing Professional Communication Skills for ASEAN, for the scholarship to participants from ASEAN countries to undertake a seven-week English language training programme at UBD-FPT Global Centre in Da Nang, Vietnam about 27 participants from Myanmar have been awarded to date since the launch of this programme last year.
